Field Trip Friday: Film BIz Prop Shop
I had heard of this place and finally got a chance to visit. I wheeled around an old shopping cart and had a blast finding bargain treasures -- so much fun! Film Biz Prop Shop is a recycling center for film and TV props that are no longer in use, so its inventory is pretty unpredictable. The good news is that it is huge -- and prices are fantastic. Their mission is a good one: to help 'green' the film industry by encouraging environmental management for film and TV production. Saturday, April 30th they will have a meeting from 6-8 for industry folks who want to find out more about Environmental Management in Film and TV production. There are more productions now that are hiring green producers, environmental stewards, and even green production assistants, so this is a real and growing part of the industry.
Contact them at 347.384.2336 or info@filmbizrecycling.org. They are located at 540 President Street and are open M-F 10-7 and Sunday 12-7.
Here are some of the bargains I spotted:
OK, so this was $75. $75!!! |
A very cute 50's ash dining set - $145 |
Fabulous candlesticks. I bought them, sorry |
A sweet purple bud vase, $6. Bought this one too. |
There are lots of miscellaneous industrial pieces, tabletop items, model battle ships, accessories and furniture. If you are into retro styling, there's a lot to see. Happy shopping!
