Last-Minute holiday DIY solutions
Some last minute ideas...
For the table, I got cut-off ends from the Christmas Tree guys (they'll give them to you), drilled a hole (I used an auger bit and use them as votive or candle holders. I stacked these and put some berry branches and tree cuttings around them.
I used a bit like this Speedbor bit to fit the votives. It took some patience and elbow grease but it wasn't hard at all. Use a piece of scrap under the wood in case the point penetrates the bottom. The idea is to drill just to the depth of the votives.
This is just a bowl of cranberries and water with candles -- I think it would be even better without the water, or fill a hurricane lantern with some cranberries and nestle a pillar candle inside.
My mother-in-law came up with this great idea for wrapping paper -- she used some discarded shelter magazines as wrapping paper. I think it looks fabulous!
This was an item formerly available at West Elm, but It's an inspiration for simple hanging decorations on string -- even colored construction paper.
I love this mantle with candles in the fireplace, leaves, and silver candles. Groups of same colored items always look tasteful.

A glass bowl filled with fruit on the table (granny smith apples or clementines), or for an easy and fancy dessert 'side dish' with some prosecco, chocolate covered clementines with a little course sea salt -- so pretty.
a Merry, Merry, Christmas from me, my family and CAVdesign!
