Object Memory: The Wallpaper Project
The beach has always been a very special place for me, with the sounds and smells evoking a deep calm in my being. I hold many childhood memories of playing with my sister on our styrofoam surf boards in the waves and eating (slightly sandy) sandwiches and cold grapes lovingly packed up by my grandmother. even now I continue to add to my treasure trove of beautiful shells and rocks.
After months of being home bound I welcomed a summer getaway to Cape Cod, bringing along my watercolors with the idea that I could perhaps find a way to bring that feeling into my home in the form of a wallpaper based on the look and feel of the beach.
Well, after many hours in photoshop, I finally had some workable files to test, and the final result is a wallpaper that reads like a mural, but can be applied to any size wall. But the really important thing is how I feel when I walk into the room -- It’s like a tuning fork or vibration that just makes me feel happy and calm.
This new chapter in my design life has been a long time in the making, and brings together my work as a photographer (which I did professionally for 18 years before becoming a designer), art, and my fascination with the resonance of memory in imagery and objects.
I’m excited to continue this journey into creating wall coverings that evoke the best of memories and life’s sweetest moments.
Just a note that I’m currently accepting commissions for custom wallpaper including larger scale murals, and the design featured in this post is available by request. Have a wall that’s ready to be transformed, or a space that is asking for some design magic? Drop me a line!
PS Love the lamp? It’s AllModern. More to come on this shortly ;)
