Pulling the look together

If you are looking to do a design makeover, the key is curating. You’ll need to include only items that support the look and theme, and take out the rest. That means you may want to ‘retire’, sell or store some of your pieces. Curating is the key to a cohesive space, and it’s the most important part of the design process (other than picking fabulous items!).

For this look I was inspired by 60’s interiors - I imagined a couple who may have traveled to Latin America on an adventure and picked up some textiles and that wonderful Llama (keep in mind that in the 60’s a trip to Latin America really WAS an adventure!) The server doubles as a bar and adds an eclectic vibe, while the chandelier gives the room some sparkle.

Getting it done - 3 tips for a smooth makeover

  1. For this look, I streamlined by sourcing everything from the same website, which means all my purchases are tracked in one account and getting questions answered is a phone call away — a huge timesaver.

  2. When shopping online, look for sites that have a good search engine - can you filter by size? By price? By style? For example, Allmodern’s site will hep you filter results down to a manageable number, so you don’t have to spend all night scrolling - and they carry both bargains and high-end brands.

  3. Always remember to check sizes with your tape measure before ordering to make sure it fits in your room, and through the doors and up the stairs into your home.
