This Brooklyn townhouse was chopped into 3 apartments, and suffered from years of poor maintenance and neglect. It was transformed it into a simplex two bedroom, two bath on the garden floor, and a duplex 5 bedroom, 3 bath on the upper two floors. An 18’ extension provided additional square footage and a deck space for the duplex. Replacing a supporting wall with a steel I-beam allowed for a loft-like parlor floor, bringing light and openness to the family living spaces. In the midst of the year-long renovation, and in spite of receiving no care, the apple tree in the front garden produced a lovely sweet Cortland apple. It weighed down the slim branch, much like the tree in “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.  It tasted delicious, and felt like a little ‘thank you’ from the house.
